If you could write like one fiction author, who would it be?
Submitted by Marilyn.
Oh sweet baby jesus.
I'd like to be able to write fantasy like Neil Gaiman - delicate but strong prose, with characters that will break your neck then break your heart.
I'd like to be able to write moments like Tanya Huff. You'll be reading along and all of a sudden her character will do something completely unexpected and completely human, and you stumble, then you snicker, and it just sticks with you.
I'd like to be able to write satire and humour with deep insight like Terry Prattchet. You think you're reading about trolls and dwarves and vampires and witches, but you're really reading about the human condition.
I'd like to be able to write boys like Sarah Dessen. All her male protagonists are flawed and sensitive and artistic and honest.
I'd like to be able to write as bluntly as Anthony Bourdain. He holds nothing back - be it good or bad.
Since I'm not any of those people, I guess I'll just have to write like me.
What's the most drastic change you've ever made to your appearance?

By the time I was 10 years old, I'd never had my hair cut, not even trimmed. I had to wear it in braids all the time because it got tangled and knotted so easily, and I could only wash it once a week because it was a two-person job, usually in the bathtub or in the laundry tub. When I played basketball, I had to tuck my braids down my shirt because they were lethal if I turned too fast.
So, in the fall of my 10th year, I got my hair cut. Short. Short short - like, three inches long. I went from having hair down to my knees (no kidding - my mom took a picture of me the night before it was cut when it was out of the braids) to looking like a boy. I didn't tell anyone at school I was doing that, and when I walked in the next day, no one recognized me at first. I remember walking into the classroom, and everyone's jaws falling open and the expressions of shock on their faces. For weeks afterwards, people who didn't know what I'd done would walk past me until they realized who I was and what I'd done.
What is your favorite scent?
Submitted by Erinen.
Gingerbread. I love gingerbread - it says warm cozy house in the winter, and that it's almost Christmas.
Fresh bread - my mother always used to make our bread. Store-bought bread was a rare treat. The smell of it is comforting.
There is a brand of men's colognes - I don't know which ones - that anytime a man walks by and they're wearing it, I go all weak-kneed. It's a little bit vanilla-musk-cloves-bergamot, if that makes any "scents" (hee!)
What's your sign? What do you think of astrology and horoscopes?
I'm an Aries, but I was born on the cusp (the 22nd of March), so I also have characteristics of Pisces - the first and the last signs of the Zodiac. A fire and a water sign. I'm both war-like and dreamy. Go me!
In terms of Chinese astrology, I was born in the year of the Dragon, and the element that year was Fire.
Do I believe in astrology? Not really. I don't read my horroscope on any sort of regular basis, and I haven't done a tarot card reading in years. But given that all of my signs and elements highlight characteristics I posess (luck, passion, emotion, strength, impatience), I'm not ready to discount it entriely.
Books, movies, music; what's in your top 5 right now?
Top 5 things in my life right now:
1. The weekend. I don't have to work, I'm not expecting company so I don't have to be social or dash around here cleaning. All I need to do is get my groceries for next week, and crash on the couch and watch all the movies I've been hoarding from the library for the past little while.
2. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levitan. I finished reading it last weekend, but it's still sticking with me. That book rocks five kinds of awesome.
3. Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (soundtrack). Not really a huge Lenny fan, but I love this soundtrack. Surprisingly, it's the Teddy Thompson songs I love the most, followed by the Nick Cave song, then the Jarvis Cocker song, then Martha Wainwright, THEN Rufus Wainwright. I love that, while he's still hot shit in my book, his cover's aren't even my favourites.
4a. Sad movies that make me weepy. Some of the staff and I were talking about movies that made us cry, and I still think the best one for that is Truly Madly Deeply, with Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson. I was bawling in the first ten minutes, and only let up once or twice during the whole thing.
4b. Romantic stories that make me all mushy. It doesn't have to have a happy ending, where the couple ride off into the sunset to live happily ever after. It just means that it affected me somehow, and I think about them long after I've moved on.
5. Heroes on Monday nights. How much do I love happy, bubbly Hiro? How much did I love that the indestructable cheerleader drove into that wall at high speed to teach that rapist a lesson? How much do I want to be the filling in an Adrian Pasdar/Milo Ventimiglia sandwich?

If you are going to dress up for Halloween, what will you be? Why?
Submitted by Auweea.
I'm not going to dress up all fancy-like, but I do have this terrific hat I'm going to wear:
It's a black vinyl witch's hat, which has black feathers around its extra-wide brim. I might wear a black skirt and a black blouse, but I'll definitely be wearing the hat.
Damn, I missed it. It was something to the effect of "If you rode across the desert with a horse with no name, and then found out it had a name, what would it be?" It took me until this morning to come up with a good answer:
Colonel Bucky McManyfeathers
That is all.
What TV show(s) will you be watching this season? Why?

Let's see...
First, there are the returning favourites. Grey's Anatomy because the dialogue is awesome and George is so adorkable. Battlestart Galactica because it tells a story amazingly well and the acting is top notch. Mythbusters because I'm a geek and I love watching other geeks in action. The Office because I want to know what happens to Pam and Jim, and because Dwight is such a loser. Corner Gas because it's funny as hell.
Then, there is the new stuff. Jericho, but not just because Skeet Ulrich is the poor man's Johnny Depp; I'm drawn to post-apocalyptic stuff even though it freaks me out. Eureka because it's geeky and the episode I've seen was amusing. Ugly Betty because I root for the underdog. And I'm going to watch an episode of Vanished, because Gale Harold is in it.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I can be both, as long as I get some naps and a pot of espresso in between. Otherwise, I'm a morning person. The latest I can sleep in when the alarm is off is usually around 8:30 or so. Only once have I slept until noon, and that was because I went to bed at 7am.
