Or it could be the sea turtles ("Dude!"), or the sharks ("Hello! Name's Bruce!"), or the Monty Python references ("Swim away! Swim away!"), or whale speak ("Was that too orca-ish?")
Okay, here's what I really love about this film:
Tom Waits as the inventor of non-lethal weapons. I love Tom Waits - he scares me a little, but he's freakin' awesome.
William H. Macy. So serious. So earnest.
Janeane Garofolo. "Sorry, but am I to understand you've inserted your father's skull inside of that ball for bowling?" "No, the guy at the pro shop did it."
The one-liners:
"When you can balance a tack hammer on your head, you can head off your foes with a balanced attack." "And why am I wearing the watermelon on my feet?" "I never told you to do that."
"Your handwriting is atrocious!" "You dress in the manner of a male prostitute!"
It's a good no-brainer movie.
Here's why I love this movie: it all seems so unrehearsed. It's like a group of elementary school students got together and wrote a movie for a group of high schoolers and teachers, but didn't give them any time to absorb the script. Then, when they filmed it, they printed the first take.
It's sweet and funny, and I like how utterly uncomplicated it is. There's no swearing, no sex, no violence, and normally this means "boring." However, this is the exception to the rule.
Plus, there's the dancing. Haven't you always wanted to learn how to do that dance?
