Books, movies, music; what's in your top 5 right now?
Top 5 things in my life right now:
1. The weekend. I don't have to work, I'm not expecting company so I don't have to be social or dash around here cleaning. All I need to do is get my groceries for next week, and crash on the couch and watch all the movies I've been hoarding from the library for the past little while.
2. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levitan. I finished reading it last weekend, but it's still sticking with me. That book rocks five kinds of awesome.
3. Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (soundtrack). Not really a huge Lenny fan, but I love this soundtrack. Surprisingly, it's the Teddy Thompson songs I love the most, followed by the Nick Cave song, then the Jarvis Cocker song, then Martha Wainwright, THEN Rufus Wainwright. I love that, while he's still hot shit in my book, his cover's aren't even my favourites.
4a. Sad movies that make me weepy. Some of the staff and I were talking about movies that made us cry, and I still think the best one for that is Truly Madly Deeply, with Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson. I was bawling in the first ten minutes, and only let up once or twice during the whole thing.
4b. Romantic stories that make me all mushy. It doesn't have to have a happy ending, where the couple ride off into the sunset to live happily ever after. It just means that it affected me somehow, and I think about them long after I've moved on.
5. Heroes on Monday nights. How much do I love happy, bubbly Hiro? How much did I love that the indestructable cheerleader drove into that wall at high speed to teach that rapist a lesson? How much do I want to be the filling in an Adrian Pasdar/Milo Ventimiglia sandwich?
While unpacking some books over the weekend, I came across the notebook where I used to write down blog and story ideas, and came across this half-finished post. I don't know when I wrote it, or in what context, but I reference one of my favourite CDs, which is why it caught my eye.
I'm not going to bring the Lhasa CD with me. Not unless I plan to take an overnight trip which requires me to stop at a lonely hotel in the middle of nowhere because the rain is coming down so hard I can't see out the windshield, and I end up being seduced by the gorgeous 20-something clerk who's there by himself and knows a good thing when he sees it and need music to set the mood.
(1. I'm sorry, that was a run-on sentence if I've ever seen one. My bad.
2. If there are any gorgeous 20-something hotel clerks out there who know a good thing when they see it, call me!)
What horrible Edward Gorey Death will you die?

You will sink in a mire. You like to think you're normal, but deep down you really just want to strip off your clothes and roll around in chicken fat.

I'm sitting in bed trying to blog, and it's really uncomfortable.
My dad and grandfather arrived early this afternoon to do some odd jobs around the house, and to deliver the cabinet my super-talented grandfather made. They installed a handrail down the basement stairs, fixed the shingles around the chimney outside, and installed a new plug by the washing machine. We ate dinner around 6:30ish, I started watching TV, and then they started making noise about going to bed. Granted, they were on the road at 7:00, so they have every right to be tired.
My grandfather is sleeping in the spare room, and my dad is on the futon in the living room. Which means I've been stuck here since 10, and I'm not even tired. There isn't a comfortable way for me to sit on the bed and use my laptop, and I'm not really tired yet. Maybe I'll go sneak past my dad and grab a glass of water and my book.
If you are going to dress up for Halloween, what will you be? Why?

I'm not going to dress up all fancy-like, but I do have this terrific hat I'm going to wear:
It's a black vinyl witch's hat, which has black feathers around its extra-wide brim. I might wear a black skirt and a black blouse, but I'll definitely be wearing the hat.
Remember how I mentioned I would be watching Vanished just out of curiosity because Gale Harold was in it? Well, I started enjoying it... and then they went and killed off his character last week! Assholes!
Damn, I missed it. It was something to the effect of "If you rode across the desert with a horse with no name, and then found out it had a name, what would it be?" It took me until this morning to come up with a good answer:
Colonel Bucky McManyfeathers
That is all.
